Terrible customer service

Westpac as a company is set up in a way that shows it couldn’t care less about its customers. They are incredibly quick and on top of things when it comes to taking your money, but when they need to give money back it’s like they suddenly have no staff. I have to say that the individuals I have spoken to have been lovely. But this bank is set up to take money, they don’t care about looking after their customers and returning money that is rightfully owed.

Customer service is just a joke.

Customer service is just a joke. I definitely not recommending deal with this bank. They take all your energy, and it's YOUR money.

Steer clear of Westpac

Steer clear of Westpac! They have incompetent staff in branches and on their telephone line who refuse to respond to formal complaints, who stuff up by opening the wrong accounts and then lock away your money and do not allow you to access it, and who cannot answer the simplest of questions regarding interest rates so they give you fake numbers to call (in an attempt to get you to give your personal information to their friends) or they transfer you to any number of departments who then hang up on you when you describe for the 7th time why you called.

CLOSE YOUR ACCOUNT IF YOU MOVE OVERSEAS

I have resorted to writing this review to try and get the attention of someone from within Westpac. I have been a Westpac customer for over 15 years. Prior to moving to London three years ago, I advised Westpac in advance of my move to ensure my account would not be locked whilst over there - this of course, didn't help. My account has been continuously locked for 'suspicious spending activity' whilst I have been living in the UK. This happened for the third or fourth time during the pandemic. Upon calling Westpac to try and have my account unlocked, I could not remember my three digit security number. Because of this, the customer security officer advised me that I would not be able to regain access to my account unless I went into the London branch with my passport to prove my identity.. THE LONDON BRANCH HAS BEEN CLOSED FOR TWO YEARS!!! I have tried emailing my Sydney branch, pleading to have my identity verified another way and have spent hours on the phone trying to get through to a department that could help unlock my account... No one has been able to help me, so I’ve been unable to access my own money for well over one year now. I was told that the London branch had finally opened - so I went there with my passport to have my identity verified, withdraw my balance, close the account and finally be done with this nightmare. Upon arrival, I was told that Westpac were only seeing customers by appointment and was given a number to call to try book an appointment. Of course when I called, I waited in the cue for over an hour, only to be told that I wasn’t able to book an appointment. As a last resort they transferred me through to another department where I waited for yet another hour to get through to someone. When I was finally put through to the fraud department, I was asked to email a number of verification documents (including a selfie holding my passport).. I was told someone would get back to me within 72 hrs max... It is now nearly one week later. I am really at my wits end here. Why do Australian banking institutions make it so impossible for customers that are living overseas to manage their funds and resolve issues with their account from abroad? I have had no visibility over what bank fees I am currently being charged, nor have I been able to access MY OWN MONEY for OVER ONE YEAR.. how is this justifiable!? In addition to this, whilst living in the UK I have also been notified that I am now part of a class action lawsuit against Westpac for selling fraudulent insurance packages on credit card accounts.... No wonder society is moving away from traditional banking and into decentralised finance. This is nothing short of robbery.

Theives!

My partner "had" an account with Westpac, he gets put in prison, then a month later, they closed his account with no reason given and just over $1000 in it. And of course they cannot give me any information as I am not authorised on his account. And of course he cannot authorise me as he is still in prison and there is absolutely nothing they will do to help.

No help what so ever in a foreign bank emergency

2 years with westpac. I have just filled 2 complaint forms and had a call for 1 hour 12 minutes. Where they asked me 2 security questions wich made no sense what so ever. I failed identification while I have all my details by hand and al my work payslips. I am in a foreign country and got robbed. I lost my paspoort and cards I have my westpac card still luckily. I need to pay for my new paspoort and I need to acces my card. My telephone number from my account is dispatched. And I can’t acces my account without receiving a sms text. I need to acces my account to change my card to international banking. This is an emergency. And they are not helping me trough the phone. She just kept repeating I can’t help you today while I stated al my bank details and told her I’ve got al my payslips and so on. Unacceptable customer service!!
