Advertised as being for start up companies 

New limited company launched, registered with companies house and approved

I personally have a very good credit score, no debts or finance.

Application was declined as I, or the company, did not pass their checks, but they fail to give any information as to which checks.

Impossible to actually speak to a human being about it. Looking on their social media such as Facebook many more people are in the same boat.

Absolutely appalling.

It’s my first few days of using mettle, I’m just setting up all my pots and learning how to transfer money into my other accounts for bills etc…..it’s not too difficult so far but there’s a lot to explain and I’m sure a lot to still twist my melon man. 
On the forecourt it seems like a decent account and linking it to free agent can only make life easier down the line……I’m just not sure how far down the line that will be…….I’ll review again in a few weeks/months.

Initial impressions are great!

all ok until you have issues with a supplier, they do not protect your money and refuse to help you. 
Chargebacks requests, do not get taken seriously and you loose all your money. They do not provide you with the supposed compelling evidence they have to refuse it. You call them and they treat you like rubbish, as they do not care for your business bringing a 6 -7 figure to their bank. will change banks now, do not make the same mistake.

avoid- your money not protected

Im a landlord with a ltd company been trading for legally for 8 years and they require me to supply addresses / value and detailed information of where the money came from   I never asked for a loan so why so much information for a bank account!

Plus not fscs registered so if they go bust say goodbye to your money.

I have twice now had clients unable to pay large sums (£1,500+) into my Mettle account. Their bank (both times HSBC) flagged my mettle account as a fraudulent account and my clients had to go through a messy process to pay me, once entirely unable to pay me into my mettle account.

The basics of mettle are just that, very basic. Payments don't appear immediately on the app and uploading receipts is slow and tedious. Pairing with FreeAgent has a one day delay which defeats the point of instant accounting software. I will be changing my business bank account ASAP.

very poor banking service.... i finally managed to open the business account after weeks of trying , and only after i had already been accepted by starling bank , but decided to carry on with Mettle. 
Have had the account for over a year now and there have been many little niggles which i put down to teething problems and between us we have been able to work these out ... UNTIL , i found one day that they had declined an incoming payment of over £2000 because the account had reached its maximum limit??? , which firstly i was not told there would be a maximum limit ( first business account i have ever heard of with a limit , and was i told this in the application stage i would not have opened it as our business can not trade like that), but secondly there were no alerts or emails to say that it was nearing that limit .. just a declined transaction. 
I have now had to spend at least 10 working hours trying to get the supplier to re-issue this payment as it is a local authority and has to go through several department and checks , and send numerous e mails , telephone calls and even a signed letter from all directors. 
I have now opened a different business account as this bank is just not what it was thought to be, and has caused me more grief than is imaginable

Mettle are utterly hopeless, an amateurish outfit unfit to call themselves a bank. AVOID!!! The fact that you can neither send nor receive international transfers isn't highlighted on their website. When an international transfer was made to my account they rejected it and made no attempt to advise me of their action. What sort of business account is this? So long as you don't import or export goods or services it might be fit for purpose. Then again a Post Office bank account will do the same.

Amazing and free

Don't even know where to begin, absolute shambles of a company. They do not care about their customers. Have their own rules and. Policies that they believe are above FCA regulations. The complaints procedure is an absolute joke. Financial ombudsman did say, that they've never had so many queries about a bank in a long time. You owe me, and my business a lot of money. Disgraceful.
Anyone looking to use Mettle. I wish you all the luck in the world. You will need it.

Mettle was exceptionally straightforward to sign up to, has been very simple and intuitive  to use. The only thing missing is an IBAN number, so if you need to make/receive international payments, or want to add credit features such as Klarna to your company this may not be the platform for you. This is also the reason I’ve given it 4/5 stars, otherwise I’d highly recommend it.
